The QNAP TL-R1200PES-RP is a high-capacity 12-Bay PCIe JBOD storage expansion enclosure with a 2U short-depth rackmount design. It is designed specifically to expand the storage capacity of compatible QNAP QTS and QuTS hero NAS systems using high-speed PCIe Gen 3 x8 connectivity.

The enclosure supports 12 hot-swappable 3.5-inch SATA HDD bays, with support for compatible 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, and provides up to 64Gb/s data transfer bandwidth depending on the host NAS, PCIe slot and installed storage configuration. It supports JBOD cascading and NAS storage pool expansion, making it suitable for large-scale backup, virtualization, surveillance, multimedia and enterprise data storage.

The QNAP TL-R1200PES-RP is a PCIe storage expansion enclosure and not a standalone NAS. It connects to a compatible QNAP NAS through dedicated PCIe expansion cards and SFF-8644 cables, providing high-speed direct-attached storage expansion.

The system supports compatible QXP-3X8PES PCIe Gen 3 x8 and QXP-3X4PES PCIe Gen 3 x4 expansion cards. Multiple compatible expansion units can be cascaded for large-scale capacity expansion. QNAP states that supported QuTS hero configurations can scale to 2.0PB using up to twelve expansion enclosures and 144 hard drives, while actual support depends on the host NAS.
